Description
On 28 March 1897, Lev Tolstoy pays an unexpected visit to Anton Chekhov in hospital. So begins a series of meetings and philosophical conversations, in different years and cities but under much the same conditions: both writers are gravely ill. Close in their search, they often part ways on the questions that matter most. Yet their conversation about life and death keeps the humour that was theirs.
In 2026, it was finished at the initiative of his friends and fellow artists.

About the director:

Marlen Khutsiev
An outstanding Soviet and Russian film director, screenwriter, and teacher; People’s Artist of the USSR. From 1978 he ran the fiction-directing workshop at VGIK. His films include Spring on Zarechnaya Street (1956), The Two Fyodors (1958), I Am Twenty (1965), July Rain (1966), It Was in May (1970), Postscript (1983), and Infinitas (1991). Khutsiev’s cinema is distinguished by its lyrical, deeply humanistic approach; his films explore the inner world of the individual against a backdrop of social and historical change. Among his many awards are the State Prize of the Russian Federation, a prize at the Venice International Film Festival, and the Leopard of Honour for his contribution to cinema at the Locarno Film Festival. Unfading was the last film he worked on, up to the final days of his life, and one he did not live to complete.
