About the director:

Coralie H. Gourdon is a documentary director from French Polynesia. After earning degrees in literature, social anthropology, and filmmaking from the Paris Sorbonne University, She participated in the 2021 Werner Herzog Accelerator in Lanzarote, where she directed her short documentary film Animal Planet. As a filmmaker, she endeavors to allow her subjects to express their own images, fantasies, and mental representations, exploring subjective approaches to reality and the gray areas between genres.

Frank Heath
Artist and director, he was born in 1982 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He has exhibited his work in solo shows at the Simone Subal Gallery, New York and collaboratively at the Swiss Institute, New York; Young World, Detroit; Simone SubalGallery, New York; Art Basel Statements, Basel; and the Videotage Gallery, Hong Kong. His work has exhibited in group shows and screenings at venues including the Kitchen, New York; International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Power Plant, Toronto; Centre Pompidou, Paris, and the High Line, New York. Heath currently lives and works in New York City.

On the 24th of June, 1958 the philosopher and anti-nuclear activist Günther Anders was flying to Japan to take part in the Fourth World Conference Against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs and for Disarmament. He recollected this experience in his book “The Man on the Bridge: Diary from Hiroshima and Nagasaki”.

Description

Matchboxes are packaged in the most fantastical, symbolic imagery, becoming mini-portals to dream worlds. The film attempts to create loops of meta-narratives held together with the glue of recorded history, breaching them every now and then to withdraw back to the original isolation and unintentionality of the act of collection, and perhaps even the creation of the images.

Born in Moscow, Russia in 1996, Zhenia Kazankina (she/her) is a screenwriter and director and a graduate of the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK). Her work revolves around themes of solitude, attachment, and alienation from a feminine perspective. Her short films have screened internationally in festivals such as Locarno Film Festival, Palm Springs ShortFest, ZINEBI, True/False and many others. She participated in the In Silico competition of Message to Man IFF 2023 with Empty Rooms. She is an Alumna of Locarno Filmmakers’ Academy and Spring Academy and of Reykjavík Talent Lab.

Jorge Moneo Quintana
Director. Born in 1988 in the Basque Country, he graduated from the University of the Basque Country and studied at the universities of Cluj, Vigo, and Barcelona. Jorge participated in IDFAcademy and Berlinale Talents, his films The Interior City (2017), The Scars (2019), and In the Blink of an Eye (Message to Man’s In Silico competition 2022) have been showcased and won awards at festivals including IDFA, DOK Leipzig, Oberhausen, Punto de Vista, Tirana, and Guadalajara. His fifth directorial work, Exergo, is featured in the out-of-competition programme Multiverse.
