St. Petersburg premiere of a techno-melodrama and a meeting with director Anton Moiseenko
Director Anton Moiseenko visits his old friend Nikita, a Russian émigré working as a delivery driver in faraway Minneapolis, and decides to make a film about him — his past and present. The past is a mix of mistakes and successes, a career as a techno music producer that never quite happened, and friendships. The “present” is a quiet life in Minnesota with the woman he loves, accompanied by nostalgia for his turbulent youth. Moiseenko incorporates staged scenes into the documentary narrative, reconstructing important events in the protagonists’ lives while setting Nikita’s memories against those of the other people involved. Another storyline follows Nikita’s music: tracks he wrote in a former life. The film was selected for the national competition at the 2026 Beat Film Festival.
