Semyon Dymshits

Semyon Dymshits is a fifth-year student in Oleg Kovalov’s film studies workshop at the St. Petersburg State Institute of Film and Television. His particular sphere of academic interest is Soviet cinema from the 1930s-1950s. He has written various articles about the films of Fridrikh Ermlerand the political film pamphlets of the small-screen period. His work has also focused on Akira Kurosawa’s film The Lower Depths (1957) with Japanese theatrical tradition, as well as research on the early work of Heinosuke Gosho and Hiroshi Shimizu.
