A key figure in Nepalese cinema’s new wave, holds Master’s degrees in Buddhist Philosophy and Political Science while pursuing a PhD in Anthropology. His short film, Bansulli (2012), Nepal’s first entry to the Venice Film Festival, followed by his debut feature, Kalo Pothi (2015), which won the Fedeora Best Film Award at Venice Critics Week, and became Nepal’s official entry for the Oscars. Acknowledged for nurturing emerging talent, his productions have graced Venice, Berlinale, Rotterdam, and Busan. His second feature, Shambhala (2024), was the first Nepalese film selected at the Berlinale Competition well as the first Nepalese film screened at Locarno Piazza Grande.
