Description
A legend about a city, real or imagined, that is invaded by dangerous enemies. It is defended by a handful of people who, perhaps, are not heroes at all. They continue their fight to the end, unaware that the battle is endless.
• The film premiered at the first-ever Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival and received a Special Mention at the Locarno Film Festival.
About the director:
Hugo Santiago (1939–2018)
He was one of the key figures of the Argentine “new wave,” as well as a director, screenwriter, actor, and producer. He worked as an assistant to Robert Bresson, notably on The Trial of Joan of Arc. Santiago was also involved in theater direction and choreography. At the University of Buenos Aires, he met Jorge Luis Borges, and together they created Invasion, based on Borges’s story and screenplay, making it one of the few films based on Borges’s texts to be shot in Argentina. After his political emigration in the late 1970s, Santiago worked mainly on experimental television plays and documentaries about art. His film Sidewalks of Saturn (1985) received 11 Silver Condor Awards from the Argentine Film Critics Association.
