About the director:
Director. Born 1981, Iran. In 2002 he gave up his studies at Teheran Polytechnic University and travelled to Europe, where he finally settled in Stockholm, Sweden. In 2007 he graduated with a BA in architecture. Ali Abbasi graduated as a film director at the National Film School of Denmark in 2011. His feature film debut, Shelley (2016), premiered at the Berlinale. His second film, the Swedish-Danish co-production Border (2018), won the main prize in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Festival. Abbasi’s third feature film, Holy Spider (2022), world premiered in Competition at the Cannes Festival, winning the Best Actress award to Zar Amir Ebrahimi. The film subsequently screened at prominent festivals such as Toronto, Austin, Busan and London.
