Synopsis:
Football has always had a mixed relationship with crowds. The stadium is a microcosm for society, it is a public space for profane culture and a control apparatus, and the evolution of the stadium parallels broader social changes that have happened over the past thirty years.
About the director:
Nicolas Gourault is a visual artist and independent researcher based in Paris. Having completed a masters thesis at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales on the visual language of Forensic Architecture, he is currently enrolled at Le Fresnoy, Studio National des Arts Contemporains. Further to this, he worked at Forensic Architecture in 2017, investigating cases of unlawful detention and torture in Northern Cameroon, and worked on the online platform Conquer and Divide in 2019.
