Description
A tango musical about the lives of a group of Argentines who, during Argentina’s military dictatorship, found themselves exiled in Paris. The film depicts their pain, struggle, and attempts to survive in a foreign land. In memory of Carlos Gardel, the legendary singer and composer of the early 20th century, the group begins to create “tangedy”—a tragicomic production about their experiences and the experiences of their country, told through the national culture of tango. Special Jury Prize and Pasinetti Prize at the Venice Film Festival.
This film marked the beginning of Fernando Solanas’s worldwide recognition not only as a radical political director and ideologist of the “Third Cinema”, but also as a significant filmmaker capable of speaking to a broad audience.
