About the director:
Abbas Fahdel
Franco-Iraqi filmmaker and writer, born in Babylon, Iraq. He holds a PhD in Cinema from the Sorbonne University in Paris and has been making films since 2002, both documentaries and fiction, which have won numerous international awards. He directed three documentaries in Iraq, the most renowned being the monumental Homeland: Iraq Year Zero (2015). His first feature-length fiction film, Dawn of the World (2008), was shot in Egypt. Since moving to Lebanon in 2017, he has directed four films: Yara (fiction, 2018), Bitter Bread (documentary, 2019), Tales of the Purple House (documentary, 2022), and Tales of the Wounded Land (documentary, 2025). Abbas Fahdel is also the author of the novel What Time Does to Stone (Ce que le temps fait à la pierre), published in France in 2024.
