Synopsis:
Viktor Ryzhakov takes charge of the Sovremennik theatre after the death of Galina Volchek, who led the troupe for almost half a century and enjoyed absolute authority. For the theatre’s first new production, the new artistic director chooses a play about a family whose members have ceased to understand each other. While working on the play, the director and actors become more and more like the characters in the future production, and find it increasingly difficult to find mutual understanding within their “theatrical family.”
About the director:
Nikita Efimov. Director. Born in 1992 in Pskov, he graduated from the philological faculty of Pskov State University, then worked as a correspondent on regional TV. In 2019 he graduated from Marina Razbezhkina and Mikhail Ugarov’s School of Documentary Film. He has participated in and won prizes at leading world and Russian festivals: Visions du reel (“Strict Regime” won first prize in the medium-length film competition in 2021), Message to Man International Film Festival (“Kind Souls” won the special prize for debut films in 2019, and “Leningraders” won the Dan Revival Project Prize in 2020), KinoProba (“Leningraders” won the festival diploma), among others.
