About the director: Diao Yinan was born in 1969 in Xi’an (Shaanxi, China) He graduated from the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing in 1992. In 1997 Diao wrote the script for Spicy Love Soup by Zhang Yang. In 2003 Diao played the role of Xiao Zhuai in All tomorrow’s parties by Nelson Yu. He directed his debut feature Uniform in 2003. In 2007 Night Train premiered in the Un Certain Regard competition at the Cannes Film Festival and was one of only two Asian films in competition for an award. In 2014 Diao Yinan won the Golden Bear prize for Black Coal, Thin Ice at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival. The Wild Goose Lake was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
