Following the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, Fern packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society as a modern-day nomad. Nomadland features real nomads Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells as Fern’s mentors and comrades in her exploration through the vast landscape of the American West.
About the director:
Chloé Zhao was born in 1982, Beijing. After directing numerous short films, premiered at Sundance Festival her first feature film, Songs My Brother Taught Me (2015), subsequently shown in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs at the Festival de Cannes. The second, The Rider (2017), once again participated in the same section of the French competition and received four Independent Spirit Award nominations. Nomadland, adaptation of the book Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century, by the journalist Jessica Bruder, competed at the last Venice Festival. She is currently directing the new Marvel film, The Eternals.
