The late dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu, who died in 1989, resurrects in 2021 as a hologram to address the contemporary inhabitants of a small Romanian village.
About the director:
Mihai Grecu
A director and artist, Grecu studied art and design in Romania and France and continued his education at the Le Fresnoy Studio Nacional. In his visual and poetic journeys, Grecu explores the mysterious subconscious beginnings. The central themes in his works include environmental crisis, political allegories, new technologies, and disasters. Grecu’s films have been screened and awarded at numerous festivals, including Tribeca, Locarno, Rotterdam, and the Montreal New Film Festival. In 2013, he received a prize in the experimental film competition at Message to Man, where he later was a jury member. In 2022, his film Nicolae received a special prize from the international competition jury.
