A look at landscapes created by lignite mining. On the horizon, the towers of two power plants throw clouds of exhaust fumes into the air while the still active, steel mining giants flash persistently. In the distance –a blindingly white light, burning out the image.
About the director:
Eginhartz Kanter
Filmmaker. He studied fine arts, cultural studies, and photography at the University of Arts and Design Linz, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Lyon. His work questions the boundaries and conventions of everyday life and of the environments people inhabit. His (sub)urban interventions take up aspects of public space and often bear directly on architecture. Kanter’s films have screened at many international events, including Crossing Europe and festivals in Hamburg, Osnabrück, and San Francisco.
