Synopsis:
Using excerpts of films produced between 1990 and 2018, Irani Bag is a split-screen video essay questioning the innocence of bags in Iranian cinema.
About the director:
The works of Maryam Tafakory have been screened internationally, including Rotterdam IFFR, Edinburgh EIFF, Zurich Film Festival, Melbourne MIFF, Hamburg IKFF, ICA London, BFI London, Jihlava IDFF, Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, Light Industry NY, UnionDocs NY, Anthology Film Archives, and Whitechapel Gallery.
She studied her MFA at Oxford University, and her films have been nominated for the Tiger Award and Found Footage Award at the 47th IFFR, Best Short Award at the 67th MIFF. She has also received several awards, including the Best Short Film at DocumentaMadrid, Aesthetica Emerging Art Prize and was awarded the Flaherty/Colgate Distinguished Global Filmmaker in Residence NY.
