Bread Day

Information about the film

Genres: Documentary, Full-length

Director: Sergey Dvortsevoy

Operator: Alisher Khamidkhodzhaev

Year: 1998

Country: Russia

Duration: 55 min.

Languages: Russian

Description

In a remote rural community inhabited only by elderly people, bread arrives once a week by railcar. The old villagers themselves push it for several kilometres from the station and then back again.

A laconic film about the decline of the Russian countryside amid the ruins of the Soviet Union. The story is so eloquent that it needs neither editing tricks nor voiceover commentary.
