Synopsis:
Filipp is a dreamer brimming with wild and utopian ideas. He lives solely for his passions; for instance, he’s determined to organize the world’s largest music festival in his hometown of Metallogorsk. However, everything changes when he encounters Marina, and they both become consumed by love. The prospect of adult family life looms on the horizon, but he refuses to let go of his whimsical fantasies. Just when it appears that harsh reality is taking over, genuine miracles start unfolding in Metallogorsk…
About the director:
Mikhail Mestetsky. Director, screenwriter. Winner of the 2014 Golden Eagle Award for the screenplay of “Legend No. 17” and the Slovo Award for the screenplays of “Rag Union” (2015) and “Good Boy” (2016). Completed his post-graduate studies at the High Courses for Scriptwriters and Film Directors in 2005 under the guidance of Vladimir Naumov, Andrei Dobrovolsky and Evgeny Mitko. His short films “Insignificant Details of an Accidental Episode” (2011), “Legs-Atavism” (2013), “A Historical Mistake” (2019) earned him prizes at the Shanghai Film Festival, Kinotavr Film Festival, and others. His full-length directorial debut “Rag Union” (2015) was included in the Generation 14+ Berlinale competition and garnered accolades such as the prize for the best European debut in Zlín, the Grand Prix at the Festival of Russian Cinema in Honfleur, as well as awards at Kinotavr, ‘Spirit of Fire’ Festival, the Sakhalin Festival ‘On the Edge,’ among others. “Year of Birth” is his second feature film.
