The documentary examines the ethics of the true crime genre through Emily’s pursuits of her top suspects. With a growing audience of millions, Emily’s podcast becomes a hit, but as she probes deeper into the case, she’s confronted with a new truth she struggles to tell her listeners. Told in real time over several years, “Citizen Sleuth” chronicles the rise, fall, and redemption of a podcaster in the new media landscape.

About the director:
Chris Kasick
Producer, director. His feature documentary Citizen Sleuth premiered at SXSW 2023, Sheffield DocFest 2023, and IDFA2023. Recent producing credits include K-Pop Idols for Apple TV and The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley for HBO. Chris Kasick is a long time collaborator with Errol Morris, working on Fog of War and First Person. He previously directed the dark comedy, Uncle Nick (2015). He is the founder of CKC Productions.
