Programme 3: Chromatism, Pulsation and the Empty Screen

Description

Experimental film has always sought to reflect upon its own modes of production and the physicality of its material constituent. It investigates the specificity and aesthetic peculiarities of celluloid film in various ways: from emphasizing the texture of the grain, changing the colour of the film stock and experimenting with the apparatus and mechanism, to projection as a unique technological event. This is precisely the aim of this multifaceted programme: to offer a wide range of starting points, different and differentiating approaches to the used material, both photochemical and videographic, involving figuration, abstraction, material intervention or natural decomposition. It is based around notions of chromatism and colour experiments, of the moving image as pulsation and vibration, and asks whether such a thing as an empty screen could actually exist.
