Russian premiere
Luis and his young son search for his missing daughter amid Morocco’s open-air festivals. Ahead of them lies a perilous journey across the Sahara.
The film by Galician director Oliver Laxe—who lived in Morocco for several years and embraced Islam—cleverly disguises itself as an adventure story about a white man in an unfamiliar landscape. Yet the true meaning of this journey is hinted at in its title: in Islamic theology, sirât is the narrow bridge that spans from the earthly world to paradise, suspended above the fires of hell. The film is also part of the Twin Peaks programme.
* Winner of the Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival.
