Each year, Panorama.doc tracks bold experiments in non-fiction. The films in this section premiered at major festivals.<\/p>\n
A chief thread this year is art in all its forms, and the attempt to find new ways of speaking through it \u2014 of identity, of a place in a world that has lost a clear outline, of personal artistic practice and its many inversions.<\/p>\n
In Broken English<\/em><\/a>, by Jane Pollard and Iain Forsyth, a film about singer Marianne Faithfull, the usual biopic is deconstructed through a fantastical plot: a \u201cMinistry of Not-Forgetting,\u201d whose head is played by Tilda Swinton.<\/p>\n Yo, Love Is the Rebellious Bird<\/em><\/a>, by another directing pair, Anna Fitch and Banker White, was the only documentary in the main competition at the 2026 Berlin Film Festival and was awarded the Silver Bear for outstanding artistic contribution. Placing at the centre of the film an intensely personal, confessional story of friendship and loss, the directors turn archival footage in this ego-documentary into a therapeutic act of creation.<\/p>\n Franco Maresco\u2019s Bravo Bene!<\/em><\/a> is only partly a documentary. In this mockumentary Maresco\u2019s thoughts on cinema and the present are woven with the story of Carmelo Bene \u2014 avant-gardist, stage actor, collaborator of Gilles Deleuze, and, above all, a perpetual outsider with whom the director feels a profound kinship.<\/p>\n
