The Multiverse programme is a territory of cinematic exploration. This year, the two Multiverse screenings explore narrative practice: one section is titled Stories, the other Fairy Tales.<\/p>\n
Fairy Tales lead us into the dark forest \u2014 to a place where the paths wind unpredictably and the rules of everyday life no longer apply. These are stories with an eye on myth and obsession. They do not shy away from invention; on the contrary, they give themselves to it entirely. It is a world of endless mutation, where the boundaries between animal and human are radically broken \u2014 for instance, between a child and a gazelle in Gazelle<\/em><\/a> by Saman Hosseinpuor, or between a girl and a monkey in Alice & Chita<\/em><\/a> by Nathan Jactel. Here, the force of a tormenting grievance or an overwhelming desire acts on reality like an alkali, transforming it entirely into new fantastic forms in Because of (U)<\/em><\/a> by Toh\u00e9 Commaret and The Stallion and a Crystal Ball<\/em><\/a> by Christian Avil\u00e9s.<\/p>\n Stories, by contrast, speak of life without overfantasising. They look closely at the private, the familiar, the almost domestic. Their strength lies not in miracle but in precision of the gaze: in the ability to discern drama or tenderness where nothing remarkable seems to be happening.
